The City of Adelaide will host the world's first Fruit 'n' Veg Parade on Saturday 18 April.

Photo / TV Opportunities: The Right Honorable Lord Mayor Michael Harbison will officially open the parade. Cosi from the Biggest Loser and SAFM will be the Master of Ceremonies. Colourful parade structures: giant 2mx10m Carrot, a Banana Puppet and a Cucumber Team (dance via the Central Markets), Comedy Wedding of Mr Tomato and Miss Celerina

When: Saturday 18th April 2009, 12noon start till 3pm

Where: Adelaide: Victoria Square/Tarndanyangga (live entertainment) following a street march via Grote, Morphett and Gouger Streets

It is a free event held in Victoria Square (Tarndanyangga), featuring live entertainment, information stalls and food, glorious food. The parade aims to encourage people to make healthy and sustainable lifestyle choices, by introducing more fruits and vegetables into their diets. The event provides guidance for parents interested in developing healthy eating habits in their children.


Anyone is welcome to participate in the parade and those who sport a fruit or vegetable costume will be awarded for those judged the best. The parade begins at 12 noon and leaves from Victoria Square, proceeding along Grote, Morphett and Gouger Streets, before returning to Victoria Square.

Following the parade, there will be live music performances (Social Change, Pulse, City of Adelaide Concert Band), guest speakers and cookery demonstrations. There will be plenty of activities for children, including a performance by COOL 4 KIDS. Workshops on the day include; balcony gardening, bokaschi composting and native plants.

Radio & television personality, Cosi, will be the Master of Ceremonies and Adelaide’s Lord Mayor, the Right Honourable Michael Harbison, will officially open the parade.

The event is entirely run by volunteers and anyone interested in helping out is asked to contact organisers. Free registration for the parade and additional information is available on the website; ww.fruitnvegparade.net

Organiser Kas Ward said “we are really keen to involve as many community groups as possible in the parade as we should all act together to make a difference”. Further she said “The Fruit n Veg Parade is not only about eating more fruit and vegetables, it is about eating and buying local fruit and vegetables”.
